Mild food poisoning, beers, and FIFA

Copenhagen is a lot like Long Island: Brian is here and there is often nothing to do.

I’m not trying to complain and I’m not exactly bored. I’m just a little surprised at how much of a normal city Copenhagen is. The people look like Americans. The stores aren’t exotic. It’s the little things that tip you off. The road composition and organization. The language too. The big things that become small when you live here (and when everyone speaks English anyway).

It was easier to eat in Japan where fewer people spoke English than it is to eat here. Food is insanely pricey, and so far our attempts to eat cheaply have ended in two bouts of mild food poisoning. In fact we’re just having no luck with food at all. It took half an hour for two beers we ordered to come. Brian’s McDonalds burger was literally wet with grease.

But playing FIFA with a light buzz, or walking quietly alone to the bus stop listening to Beirut to go home for the night, these are things I still like. I’m content here…at times. It takes getting used to.

It definitely takes getting used to.
